"Gentlemen, you will permit me to put on my spectacles, for I have not only grown gray but almost blind in the service of my country." -George Washington

George Washington loved almost to the point of veneration by the people that knew him-and those who knew him best loved him most-he has come to been seen by generations to be a marble hero.

In life he was loved, envied by few, hated by even fewer. He was liked by all.

He was one of the best horsemen in America, had restless energy and even fell in love with his friend and neighbor's wife; Sally Fairfax. He liked an off-color joke, and never ate alone with his wife.

His mother,Mary Washington nagged him throughout her life-and she lived until George's 2nd term as president.
